We’re all about showcasing the many benefits that biking brings with hopes of encouraging people to hop on the saddle for the first time. The League of American Bicyclists is a charity that we admire for their work in helping spread the joy of bike riding across America. The Cycling Instructor program is a great way to get involved in your community to help make it a safer, healthier and happier place!

What is a League Cycling Instructor (LCI)?

League Cycling Instructors are ambassadors for better biking and the League of American Bicyclists. They showcase the many benefits of biking while also educating members of their community about safe biking practices to help them feel more confident and secure in their riding. “Helping people feel empowered and confident in their ability to propel themselves forward while doing something that’s fun and good for the planet is such a special thing to be a part of!” - Brenda Yancor, LCI in Los Angeles

LCI’s empower the next generation of bike riders, making communities safer for all cyclists and cyclists-to-be. Plus, with over 7000 League Cycling Instructors across America you’ll also be joining a community of passionate and like-minded bikers.

My bike has allowed me to meet wonderful people who are now part of my life. I have been able to visit wonderful places, serve and help others, and fill my little heart with their words of thanks and their smiles.” - Reyna López, LCI in Minnesota

How to become an LCI?

The great thing is, you don’t have to fit any particular cyclist mold or be an extraordinary athlete to become an LCI. Whether your wardrobe is full of lycra or cargo shorts, being an LCI is about having conviction that life is better for everyone when more people bike. The certification process consists of a three-day, League coach-led seminar. From there you’ll have access to all the educational materials you’ll need to help inspire better and safer biking within your community. As an LCI, you could be the encouragement someone needs to hop on the saddle and do so with confidence and safety. Sound like something you’d like to advocate for? Who is the Bike League and what do they do?

As the sponsor of National Bike Month, the League of American Bicyclists has been making biking a safer and more accessible form of transportation and recreation in America since 1880. By advocating for safer roads and stronger communities through federal policy recommendations, education and promotional programs such as Bicycle Friendly America, the Leagues’ mission is to protect your rights to safe and enjoyable bicycling. Our Founder Maria Boustead proudly sits on their Executive Board of Directors. The LCI program is just one of the many ways The League is actively making communities more bike friendly ; to find out more about the League of American Bicyclists you can visit their website here.
