Now I am not one to consider myself spiritual, but this recent experience has me questioning my own beliefs in this always wild world we live in. Listen to this:
Remember my recent post about my missing bike? I had just overhauled my bike of 8 years with a new color, new parts an everything how I wanted it- Maria and I then took it to a conference to use as a display and on the way back the package was lost because of a mix up at the conference. For weeks I filed claims and harassed the places I thought my bike could have gone, but just last week I was told the package was officially lost and I accepted defeat and wrote the post.
Anne-Marie, otherwise known as the Succulent Wife, wrote about our bicycle bags back in April, 2010. We met up for coffee and hit it off well. She recently invited me to put together a Gift Guide for bicyclists and I had a ton of fun with it. To anyway who may be considering buying me a present for the holidays, anything from this list would make me super happy. Except for the Po Campo bags of course. I have plenty of those. ;)
As some of you have also experienced, I am having to accept that my bike is now gone. I had that bike for about 9 years, it was my first city bike, purchased at Boulevard Bikes back when they had used cycles. It was a tan Schwinn le Tour from the 80′s- a nice hybrid style frame, good for skirt wearing, and it served me well getting around Chicago to work, to the store, & out with friends. Just this year I decided to spruce it up with the helpful hand of Ron Smith at Lugs, he powder coated the bike a nice teal blue and we put on new parts like a Brooks Saddle and wider handlebars so I could sit more upright. The makeover was beautiful, it was a pretty bike with all the fixings and I didn’t even get to name it.
Last week The New York Times ran an article on the front page of its Thursday Style section entitled “Bicycle Chic Gains Speed”. Look who’s prominently featured in the left column! The press hit made for an exciting end to an already very exciting week – and helped grow our retail presence in New York City. Both Hudson Urban Bicycles and MODSquad carry our line now.
Well I was going to try to show you some videos of our prototypes, but I guess I have to upgrade wordpress for that. I will still try to get them up somehow so we can show those of you who are following along how they work. Til then, a big thanks to Cheryl, Krissy (biggerkrissy.com), Payton who let me video tape them and all of those who have given us feedback!
The Glenwood Sunday Market in Roger’s Park takes place on a shady, cobblestoned stretch of Glenwood that runs alongside the CTA Red line. Yesterday was Bicycle Day at the market and it commenced with a bicycle tour through the community led by Alderman Joe Moore. We were invited to have a table, along with local bike shops and bike advocacy groups.
